HOW YOUR NURSERY IS CHANGING CHILDREN’S LIVES ACROSS THE UK
THE DIFFERENCE YOUR NURSERY’S SUPPORT MAKES
In a time when so many families and children need support, we are incredibly grateful to nurseries like yours for the efforts you go to in order to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Thanks to the continued support of all our incredible nursery and pre-school supporters, we are currently able to support over 1,400 projects and in the last year we supported 363,000 children and young people.
Right now children across the UK are facing greater challenges than ever, with mental health conditions such as anxiety & depression rising, high levels of poverty leading to inequality & lack of opportunity and many simply carrying a load that’s too heavy to manage alone. Together, we can make a difference when it is needed most.
COOPER'S STORY
At just 2 years old, Cooper was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. It came as a complete shock to his family.
Cooper spent over a month in hospital, starting three and a half years of treatment. Cailean, Cooper’s Mum says that it was all so overwhelming and they just lived day-to-day, hoping that Cooper would get better. Cailean says: “Your life literally changes overnight when your kid’s diagnosed with cancer.”

It was in hospital that they were introduced to Team Jak, who get a grant from BBC Children in Need, to support families and children who are affected by cancer.
Team Jak were on the ward where Cooper was and he began doing music therapy to help his emotional wellbeing and provide an escape. Team Jak also gave Cailean support, advice and a listening ear, which helped her through the most emotionally tough times. When Cooper came home, he stared attending Jak’s Den, where he was able to play and have fun, like any other three year old, but in an environment that was safe for him.
Cooper is now in remission, but still receives treatment. Team Jak are still there for the family, every step of the way and will continue to support them for as long as they need them.
YOUR SUPPORT HAS NEVER BEEN SO VITAL
BBC Children in Need funds amazing people and projects across the UK to help children be the best they can be.

£500
pays for a child with a life limiting illness and their family to attend a weekend residential, offering precious quality time together and the comfort of connecting with families facing similar challenges.
EMERGENCY ESSENTIALS PROGRAMME
31% of children live in poverty in the UK – with your support we can help provide them with the basics they need for life.
BBC Children in Need’s Emergency Essentials programme provides funding to local charities, so they can purchase essential items for families living in poverty. This includes things like washing machines, cookers, blankets, clothing or beds.
Unfortunately, as the cost of living continues to rise, more families are under extreme pressure. The expense of replacing a broken appliance, or a new piece of furniture, is out of reach for so many.
“We had a black mould problem in our house, and it ate through all of the mattresses and bedding. It was affecting the kids’ health, their performance at school because they weren’t getting enough sleep...everything. The new mattresses have been life-changing for all of us.”

EARLY
YEARS
IMPACT
This year, the Emergency Essentials programme has supported 22,763 children affected by poverty. Your fundraising donation will allow us to be there again this year for the children that need us most.
One of the most requested items from Emergency Essentials is beds. It’s estimated 400,000 children in the UK are going without a bed of their own at the moment – that’s why the funding like this is so vital. Thanks to your help, we can provide beds, mattresses, and blankets for families and children in need.
